Enabling Digital Transformation in the Steel Sector: An Interpretive Structural Modelling of Adoption Barriers and Strategies to Overcome Them
This research proposes a data-driven methodological framework to overcome the barriers of leveraging Industrial Digital Technologies (IDTs) to drive Resource Efficiency and Energy Efficiency (REEE) strategies in the steel sector toward net-zero carbon emissions. Through a critical literature review and stakeholder engagement, barriers to IDT adoption in driving REEEs toward net-zero were identified. The Interpretive Structural Modeling (ISM) technique was used to characterize the interactions between the barriers, facilitating prioritization of strategic interventions for enhanced adoption. It is conceived that the resulting framework will pave the way for a net-zero steel sector and provide guidelines for IDT adoption.
