NO SHOW: Development and Deployment of On-Line Decarburization Model for the RH Process
The RH process is crucial for producing ultralow-carbon steels (<10 ppm carbon). It involves multiple intermediate sampling during processing to monitor decarburization rate and determine process endpoint leading to inadvertent delays. A real-time bath carbon prediction system has been developed using MATLAB to predict instantaneous bath carbon level using reaction interface area approach, considering multi-component mixed phase mass transport theory. The prediction system has been validated with plant data, demonstrating close agreement with tested values. Furthermore, it has been interfaced with plant automation systems and is being used for efficient process optimization and control along with reduced sampling.
