Arc Flash Protection — How to Protect From Arc Flash on the Line Side of Electrical Gear?
Arc flash can cause fire, personnel injury and damage to electrical equipment. Arc flash incidents can occur from foreign objects, degradation of insulating materials and connections, dust buildup, abrupt energy spikes, and loose electrical connections. These risks can be mitigated through design practices. This presentation will explore line-side arc flash isolation: understanding how arc energy is measured and defined; discovering arc flash hazard mitigations and measurements in addition to IEEE1584; revealing how a passive solution increases uptime, improves safety, and can reduce personal protective equipment requirements; and reviewing line-side arc flash isolation technology.
