Utilization of a Digital Tool to Assess the H2 High Concentration Event in Blast Furnace Gas
The use of byproducts gases, such as blast furnace gas (BFG), is adopted in integrated steel plants to generate electricity as a strategic way to make steel production more rational and less harmful to the environment. However, the formation of hydrogen peaks in BFG compromises the electricity generation performance and can damage the gas turbine structure. This study presents the use of a digital tool to develop a dynamic mass balance to anticipate events of high hydrogen content, supporting the operators to take countermeasures to protect the turbine integrity and reduce maintenance costs.
