Improved Hot Strip Mill Operation by Centerline Control — Latest Application Toward Fully Automatic Flat Rolling
Following the strategy to eliminate the need for humans for steering hot strip in a finishing mill, a new centerline control system is in place. This new system works based on a highly accurate and reliable HotCAM measuring system for the lateral hot strip position between the finishing mill stands. This presentation will explain the new sophisticated steering control philosophy. Latest results from current installations on improved head, body and tail rolling stability, productivity increase, and impact on reduced work roll damages and unexpected roll changes will be shown. Beneficial effects on strip wedge will be highlighted.
