Cleanliness Evaluation and Control During API 5L X70 Slab Steel Production
Large-diameter pipes require a high level of internal cleanliness due to ultrasonic inspection of the entire pipe. This condition is more critical when the final thickness is higher than 0.5 inch. This study assessed the evolution of non-metallic inclusions throughout the production route of steel grade API 5L X70, considering secondary metallurgy, continuous casting and slab samples. The results obtained were associated with steel cleanliness after rolling and potential processes improvement were discussed.
