A Revolution in Cooling Long Products
The cooling of steels for the specific adjustment of microstructures and technological properties has been an integrated process in rolling mills for decades. In bar and wire rod mills, this is realized by arranging water boxes, generally but not exclusively, before and after the final forming process. This paper presents a completely new design and cooling concept. In combination with a likewise novel process control system, it offers the user maximum flexibility at significantly reduced investment costs. In addition, the water consumption necessary to achieve the desired process results is significantly lowered. First applications show the new design’s efficiency.
