Consumption Reduction and Product Mix Expansion Toward AHSS Grades With CGL Furnace Revamping: A Technical and Erection Challenge
Technological competitiveness and OpEx reduction combined with the shortest possible downtime are the driving forces for a revamping project. This paper discusses a true turnkey project Danieli Centro Combustion executed on a CGL annealing furnace. The furnace cooling section was updated from a horizontal to an L-shaped, vertical configuration, and most of the erection was performed during normal production to minimize shutdown. The benefits include productivity increase, natural gas consumption reduction and product mix extension, allowing the production of AHSS grades thanks to increased soaking time in the radiant tube section and the rapid cooling section.
