Strip Shape Measurement and Flatness Control System in a 20-High Foil Mill With Wedge Strip Profile

A steel producer was interested in adding shape measurement and flatness control system for wedge material on their existing 20-high rolling mill operation. The expectation was to hold tight tolerances while facing the challenge of measuring flatness across wedge profile strip. A solution has been developed to seamlessly integrate into the existing rolling mill while addressing the wedge profile strip during shape measurement. This presentation will review the successful results of the implemented design to accurately measure the shape with no influence from the wedge strip profile, including the automatic flatness control consistently holding product tolerances.
