Performance Modules – Milestones on the Way to a Carbon-Neutral Hot Rolling Process

The hot rolling process is comparatively energy-intensive. In order to optimize the energy consumption and efficiency in all areas of a conventional hot strip mill (HSM), SMS group has developed a number of solutions. The paper introduces a selection of Performance Modules as milestones on the pathway to carbon-neutral production. The “toolbox” follows the material flow through the HSM, starting at the slab reheating furnace, followed by roughing train, the delay roller table of finishing train, the finishing train itself, the runout table with cooling train, and finishing with the downcoiler area, and presents smart solutions.
