New Plate Grade Caster at Nucor Steel Brandenburg

The big size caster for the new plate mill at Nucor Steel Brandenburg is designed for slabs of 8- to 12-inch thickness and up to max. width of 124 inches. Technical features are robots on the casting platform, liquid core reduction, tiltable foot rollers and HD moldFO with optical fibers and electromagnetic stirring. A subsequent quenching unit, a secondary cutting unit and HD LASr in the mold and segment workshop are included as well. Various X-Pact® technology packages such as X-Pact Process Guidance, X-Pact Solid Control, X-Pact Tech Assist and Dynamic Soft Reduction form an integral part of the plant.
