The Caster for Green Steel

The necessary transition to green steel involves replacing traditional BOF production with electric steelmaking. Raw materials will also change, affecting the composition of the liquid steel. Continuous slab production has to cope with these significant changes. However, the main concern for steelmakers is to maintain the same high level of quality in the final product. Precise treatment of the hot strand is therefore required to achieve crack-free surface and homogenized internal quality at high productivity. This requires advanced gap and geometry design, sophisticated secondary cooling methods and the use of the latest generation of electromagnetic actuators for flow control.
