Development of New-Generation Mold Flow Control for Thin- and Medium-Slab Casting

Flow Control Mold (FC Mold) is a well-established electromagnetic flow control technology proven to improve productivity, surface and internal quality in conventional slab casting, as is electromagnetic braking for thin-slab casters. A new-generation FC Mold has been developed to meet the specific requirements for thin/medium slabs in CSP® Nexus slab-casting plants designed to produce a wide range of slab thicknesses, throughputs and steel grades. The new-generation FC Mold enables high flexibility of operation with stirring and simultaneous or separate braking functions. Various flow control patterns have been proposed for surface quality sensitive grades and high productivity.
