Analysis of a New SEN Design With Multi-Stage Tapered Shape
To minimize steel product defects due to slag entrainment and surface imperfections, the molten steel should enter the mold evenly distributed. The submerged-entry nozzle distributes molten steel from the tundish into the mold and is therefore critical to steel product quality. This study will evaluate the performance of a new nozzle design named Multi-Stage Taper (MST). Performance analysis uses computational fluid dynamics technique and particle image velocimetry analysis method. The MST shape significantly reduced the jet flow and made it possible to obtain a stable flow velocity distribution within the mold.
