Striving for Operational Excellence in Continuous Casting – Development of a Continuous Casting Simulator Using a Mixed Reality Approach
Operational errors, especially in the mold area, may result in operational incidents with severe implications to personnel safety, production losses and maintenance costs. Overcoming these critical situations require essential abilities like knowledge of the operational procedures, hands-on skills, as well as the physically and mentally capability, which need to be trained and evaluated on a frequent basis in a controlled and safe environment. Through a truly innovative approach, the established low-engagement classroom training utilizing written procedures and videos of past occurrences, was replaced by a high-engagement training method, designed as a serious game based on mixed reality technology.
