Start-Up of the First Sublance Skull Cleaning Device in Ternium Brasil
Steel refining process cycles are constantly optimized for reduction. To adjust these parameters before end of blow, sublance was developed to measure temperature and chemical composition. This equipment suffers from slag/metal skull adhesion, which prevents the sensor from closing electrical circuit, inhibiting proper measurement. In many companies, manual measurements are not allowed. The purpose of this study was to develop an automated mechanism for sublance cleaning in order to remove skull safely, preventing resource outage. The paper discusses the device’s commissioning and performance at Ternium Brasil, its integration challenges, and necessary adjustments for successful implementation.
