Robotic Applications to Improve Safety on Red Zone Areas
The purpose of this paper is to describe the new technologies developed to increase safety and reduce the manpower needed in some of the most dangerous areas of the whole steel plant, namely the melting and refining furnaces. The solutions consist of innovative robotic cells developed to automate sampling and temperature measurement of molten steel in EAF and refining phases, as well as EAF taphole and spout servicing for both ordinary maintenance (oxygen lance cleaning) and extraordinary operations (oxygen lance opening), removing any need of a human to access the areas.
