Wall-Mounted Multi-Material Injection System to Foster EAF Sustainability
Alternative materials able to replace fossil carbon sources is a topic of great interest for steel mills. A promising solution for EAF is the replacement of injected pulverized coal with recycled granulated polymers obtained from plastic packaging waste (secondary reducing agent, SRA). Here, the activity of the Research Fund for Coal and Steel ONLYPLASTIC project is presented. A new multi-material injection system developed by Tenova allows for the efficient injection of SRA into the EAF, promoting the reduction process and slag foaming. The benefits are: less CO2 emission; recycling of waste in a process avoiding landfill; and reduced production costs.
