Increase of Pulverized Coal Injection Rate at Blast Furnaces 1 and 2 of Ternium Brasil

Increasing the coal injection rates in the blast furnace is key to reduced coke consumption, increased availability and improved blast furnace control. Since 2009, pulverized coal injection plants at Ternium were operated to provide injection rates of 160 kg/thm of coal to Blast Furnaces 1 and 2. In 2019, it was decided to upgrade the injection plant and increase the injection to 220 kg/thm. Paul Wurth worked closely with Ternium to realize this project with minimum blast furnace stoppages to avoid large interruptions to hot metal production. In this presentation, the achievements of the upgradation project are discussed.
