BF Hearth Condition Monitoring and Hearth Repair/Reprofiling

Operation of blast furnaces became more challenging in recent years, considering frequent stoppages, raw material quality and the uncertain future for BF ironmaking. In this context it’s quite important to have proper information about the condition of the BF hearth refractory and the remaining service life. Repairs, if required, are often reduced to a minimum and “smart” repair procedures are requested like BF reprofiling. So-called multi-point temperature sensor probes help to monitor the condition of a BF hearth, and help to detect defects in the BF hearth refractory and extend the service life of the BF.
