The Integration of Quenching of EAF Fumes Into the Dropout Box: Experiences and Alternatives to the Standard Solutions
In the last 30 years, it has become common practice to spray water into the EAF primary fumes to make them filterable by the baghouses, but also to reduce the de novo synthesis related to dioxins emissions. The quenching tower has been typically vertically installed since the in-duct spraying can frequently have buildup. The findings of an application in Asia with lances installed inside a dropout box will be presented and compared to other recent towers with or without refractory, and also to the alternative temperature reduction by means of waste heat recovery systems.
