Water Treatment Challenges in a Zero-Liquid-Discharge Mill
Zero-liquid-discharge facilities are becoming more prevalent in industries across the country and steel mills are no exception. As regulatory agencies are lowering pollutants to near zero, and thus restricting water blow-down levels, water treatment of critical cooling systems is becoming ever more difficult due to the increase in concentration of dissolve solids in the cooling water. Mineral scale, corrosion and microbial fouling complicate the treatment of a cooling system. Water treatment programs must become more robust to handle these challenges. This presentation will discuss how these challenges are being met by unique and innovation solutions.
