NO SHOW: How Digitalization Improves Transparency in Emission Inventories
In an emission inventory, NOx is quantified with emission factors whenever the direct measurement of the emissions is not available. But the emission factor is usually related only to one variable, such as the amount of consumed fuel. This might prevent variations caused by other process variables from being noticed and accounted for. This work shows how dynamic emission factors, built based on multiple variables and data-driven models embedded with AI, can bring more reliability and accuracy to the inventory. The results show a potential reduction in green taxes and discuss how digitalization will improve transparency in emission inventories.
