Application of Tailored Scheduling Algorithms for Automized Slab Yard Management

Slab yards play a major role in production logistics, linking continuous casting and hot rolling. Efficient yard handling is mandatory to allow full utilization of the casting and rolling equipment. SMS digital’s Yard Management System (YMS) in conjunction with the newly developed Slab Transport Optimizer (STO) enables autonomous yard operation. The YMS defines appropriate pile positions for all slabs. It generates transport requests for slabs in time. Then the STO schedules the transport routes as well as stacking and sorting. This is of utmost importance for storing and delivering slabs in the desired order while enabling high productivity.
