Dynamic Process Control and Optimization of an Electric Arc Furnace
The wide variety of charged materials is the greatest unknown in the operation of electric arc furnaces. This circumstance makes the optimized operation of an electric arc furnace very difficult, especially when static profiles are used to control the process. The use of intelligent sensors and advanced process models enables a reaction to the actual situation in the furnace and thus advanced dynamic process operation. The paper shows how advantages like the reduced CO2 footprint and the optimized use of raw materials, electrical energy, and process gases can be achieved at an electric arc furnace with dynamic process control.
