Usage of CaO-Al2O3 Synthetic Slag on EAF Tapping for Steel Desulfurization
This study aimed to stablish a new route to desulfurization in a steel mill by testing the addition of CaO-Al2O3 system slags on the electric arc furnace steel tapping so that the desulfurization yield can be improved before the ladle furnace arrival, allowing to reduce calcium carbide addition, therefore reducing costs in the ladle furnace. Three different lime/alumina briquette ratios were determined and tested based on slag properties calculation by the software Thermocalc. Data-driven modeling techniques and an empirical steel desulfurization factor were used to measure the process variables and slag properties significance on the DeS efficiency.
