Machine Vision System to Optimize Stirring During Secondary Refining Processes
A machine vision system was developed to optimize ladle stirring during the refining process at the vacuum degasser and ladle furnace. The model processes the video feed recorded by a special-purpose camera pointed at the liquid surface in the ladle; by means of advanced computer vision techniques, it evaluates the area of exposed liquid steel, its temperature and other relevant process parameters. Based on this information and additional process data, the system automatically detects the plug's current status and dynamically suggests modifications to the stirring gas flow to maximize impurity removal and additions mixing with the minimum temperature drop.
