Tundish-to-Mold Refractory Solutions for a MIDA Caster

The tundish-to-mold path is a critical part of any continuous caster. Any disruptions at this stage could lead to several issues, including termination of cast and loss of containment. Based on some in-depth analysis, field experience, and product development, tundish-to-mold solutions for an improvement in casting reliability and performance are presented. This study includes components such as tundish furniture and the submerged-entry shroud (SES). Areas of improvement presented include better temperature distribution in the tundish, low slag entrainment at start-up and improvement in life of the SES.
