Development of a Digital Twin for the MULPIC at SSAB Mobile Plate-Steckel Rolling Mill

MULPIC is an advanced runout table cooling system that allows accurate control of the finish cooling temperature during hot rolling of steels. This makes it possible for steel mills to produce desirable microstructure, then mechanical properties for a given steel product. A digital twin of the MULPIC installed at the SSAB Mobile rolling mill has been developed. This off-line tool will allow mill metallurgists to perform quick troubleshooting and to run simulations for process optimization and product development. The key features of the digital twin and the microstructure model developed for the MULPIC are presented in this paper.
