Initiatives to Achieve Electrode Consumption of 0.6 kg/ton in the AC EAF at Topy Industries
Reducing electrode consumption in the electric arc furnace (EAF) is an important initiative for reducing costs and CO2 emissions. Topy Industries has achieved a very low consumption of 0.605 kg/ton with a 100% scrap AC arc furnace through the following three major initiatives:
1) Reduction of electric power consumption by the installation of shaft-type scrap preheating are furnace called “ECOARC.”
2) Establishment of stable low-oxygen atmosphere operation method in the EAF.
3) Further improvements such as high-voltage operation based on analysis of side and tip consumption factor.
