New Contactless Flatness Measurement for Improvement of Strip Quality and Production Yield
Conventional flatness measurement rolls potentially harm the strip quality and are time- and cost-intensive to maintain. Furthermore, the response time of these systems increases with low rolling speeds due to the revolution dependent measurement. The contactless flatness measurement consists of actuators to oscillate the strip and eddy current sensors to detect inhomogeneities of the internal tensions. The response time of the system is constant at all strip speeds and even standstill, which offers the opportunity to increase yield at strip head and tail. Since there is no contact with the strip, surface quality isn’t harmed and no wear occurs.
