Ultralow-Carbon MgO-C Refractory Bricks for Special Steel Production Processes
As the demand for lower-carbon-footprint materials increases due to environmental concerns or operational demands (lower shell temperature), the ultralow-carbon (ULC) refractory market is expected to have an important growth. Meeting these needs, ULC MgO-C refractory bricks were developed using a special type of graphite, enabling an exceptional thermomechanical behavior, and avoiding carbon pickup in the case of special steel production. Two products have been used in steelmaking process, replacing traditional refractories such as fired MgCr and high-carbon MgO-C. ULC bricks were applied in steel ladles and RH degassers with outstanding results, with better performance and lower specific cost.
