SNCR Experience in an Iron Ore Pellet Plant

Iron ore pellets production generates not only particulate matters emissions but also other acid pollutants, like for instance NOx. This paper will describe how SNCR technology was selected as the best option to reduce the NOx formed in the rotary kiln. Preliminary tests and computational fluid dynamics analysis have been performed to verify the suitability of SNCR, then an industrial installation was put in place and started in 2021, which has shown to achieve the target NOx reduction. This experience opens the door to the extension in the iron pellet industry of the SNCR technology.
