NO SHOW: Theoretical Calculation Associated With Raising Scrap Ratio in BOF
Raising the scrap ratio in the converter is one of the most important methods to reduce the carbon emission in the blast furnace-basic oxygen furnace process. Based on the energy balance, the increase of scrap ratio was calculated theoretically by pre-heating scrap, adding heat replenishing agent and increasing secondary combustion rate. In addition, the carbon dioxide emission was calculated with different scrap ratios. It is feasible for Shougang to raise the scrap ratio by adding scrap in the ladle, due to the surplus heat from molten iron. The calculation shows the scrap ratio can be increased from 15% to 18% with a heat efficiency of 60%.
