Next Generation of Pelletizing Plants for the Transition to Green Steel

Pellets will play a paramount role for the shift to direct reduced iron as the main route for carbon-neutral steelmaking. To support this transition, Metso Outotec launched NextGen Pelletizing, targeting the carbon-neutral and fully autonomous pellet plant of the future. The concept looks at eliminating the carbon emission sources in the pelletizing process design, improving fuel and electrical energy efficiency and creating better homogeneity of temperature distribution across the pellet bed through advanced burner configurations. Simultaneously, higher-level process control for main process steps will result in stable operations in a narrower operating window to respond to increasing pellet quality requirements.
