Start-Up of New Meltshop and Strip Production Plant at Nucor Steel Gallatin

For the first time, a traditional, compact thin-slab casting and rolling plant has been reconfigured into an ultramodern Quality Strip Production (QSP) plant to advance the capabilities and competitiveness and set a new benchmark for the technology. Starting from the late-1990s original configuration, Danieli and Nucor reengineered the plant by changing the original concept into an advanced QSP plant rather than expanding the native Compact Strip Production, improving thermomechanical rolling capabilities, thereby expanding production of advanced high-strength steel, API line pipe steel and other value-added grades. The revamped plant includes a high-performance DC electric arc furnace and twin ladle metallurgy furnace, and future provision for vacuum degassing.
