Approach to Successful Development of Low-Carbon, Lean-Alloyed Cold-Rolled Galvanized HSLA 550 Sheet Steels
High-strength, low-alloy (HSLA) cold-rolled galvanized steels with 550 MPa and above yield strength are increasingly demanded by the automotive market, specifically by electric vehicle manufacturers, for significant weight reduction. A low-carbon Ti-Nb microalloyed chemistry, clean steel practice with a suitable choice of hot rolling, and continuous annealing practice at the galvanizing line were adopted to result in fully ferritic matrix with precipitate strengthening producing sheet steels with a yield strength of 550 MPa or more. In this paper, production strategy and advanced material characterization of HSLA steels with minimum yield strength of 550 MPa will be discussed and results will be presented.
