Lime Particle Size Variation — Effects in Lime Injection Systems
As the steel industry continues to convert to more efficient lime injection systems, it also influences the lime size needs from the supplier. Most top charge methods utilize lime sizes up to 3” while most lime injection systems specify particle sizes of ¾” minus. Through testing of HiCal and dolomitic limes from 11 different sources, with particle sizes smaller than 3/8”, using 2 different injection systems, we have been able to successfully inject the materials through a 3” diameter convey pipe in multiple testing configurations to analyze injection feed rates, thus being able to determine the materials’ injection limits.
