New Technologies for Scale Removal and Water Quality Control in Rolling Mills

This paper describes the studies, tests and development of new technologies to reduce scale accumulation in contact water systems, improve water quality, and reduce operation and maintenance requirements in water systems. A 3-tier approach for improvements in operation and maintenance of water system is described, including the use of robotic cleaning technology, 3D mapping of scale accumulation, removable discreet strainers, magnetic separation, enhanced oil and grease separation, and flushing methods to reduce specific accumulation spots. The new methods provide options to operate the mill while the water system is being serviced without the need to stop production.
