Gearbox Maintenance
Gearbox maintenance is often set aside or neglected when production is high and downtime is low. This often leads to gearbox failure as the oil, bearings and component life cycles are diminished. Oil changes, monitoring and inspections in combination are the most effective way to track gearbox health and prepare for service downtime. Gearboxes used in steel production are often unique and do not have spare components readily available. By monitoring gearbox health, service can be scheduled and replacement parts can be coordinated to reduce downtime compared to an unanticipated failure. The presentation will cover examples of best maintenance practices.
