ESP Extends Flexibility: Smooth Operation at Big River Steel ESP With Extended Product Spectrum

Endless Strip Production (ESP) enables superior steel strip properties in surface quality, microstructure and thickness tolerance. At Big River Steel 2, ESP expands the range of producible grades, widths and thicknesses. A versatile caster and a combination of specially ground backup rolls, one SmartCrown and a few tapered grindings in the rolling mill ensure high flexibility in production. An enhanced wear shifting concept minimizes formation of high strip edges and results in convex strip profiles, even during extended rolling sequences. This paper highlights key innovations that optimize ESP performance for demanding production scenarios.
