  • Powerful Process Automation of 20-High Monoblocks for Production of Ultrathin High-Strength Steel

Powerful Process Automation of 20-High Monoblocks for Production of Ultrathin High-Strength Steel

The 20-high monoblock mill offers exceptional stand stiffness and enables ultrathin, high-strength steel production through minimal roll deformation at comparatively low rolling forces. However, its design poses challenges: limited roll gap opening, no direct possibility of measuring rolling force, nonlinear transfer behavior between screwdown actuator and roll gap change, and risks of undesirable contact and nesting failures of rolls within a roll stack. This paper presents model-based process automation solutions to mitigate these limitations, enhancing process stability and unlocking the full potential of the 20-high monoblock configuration.
