Roll Cooling Header Performance Improvement and Optimization Using CFD and 3D Printing
To improve mill roll life, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and 3D printing are used to develop high-performance roll cooling headers. CFD enables detailed analysis of flow, velocity and spray patterns to guide optimized designs, while 3D printing allows for complex geometries not possible with conventional manufacturing techniques. The resulting headers provide better cooling consistency, longer pass life and improved ergonomics with lightweight, tool-free handling — offering a durable and cost-effective solution for modern rolling operations.
