Innovations for Improved Quality, Operational Efficiency and Safety in Long Rolling Production

This paper will discuss two innovative vision-based monitoring systems by Primetals Technologies designed for long rolling production. The Laying Head Monitoring System detects ring patterns on the cooling conveyor, verifying tolerance with setups. It identifies ring and coil features such as diameter, spacing and wobble, offering corrective feedback to the operator. The Digital Optical Caliper provides continuous, high-accuracy stock section measurements using edge detection algorithms and dual-camera setups. It enhances mill safety and measurement consistency, supporting both fixed and portable configurations. Together, these systems aim to improve quality, operational efficiency and safety for long products producers through advanced visual inspection.
