State-of-the-Art Cooling of HBI in Modern Ironmaking Plants
Hot briquetted iron (HBI) continues to grow in importance as a merchant feedstock for the global steel industry, with a significant volume of trade involving maritime transport. Merchant HBI is an ideal flexible product during the transition phase for use in existing blast furnace and electric arc furnace routes. HBI production takes place in the direct reduction process, where proper cooling is of vital importance to keep the product quality high, protect the downstream equipment and avoid reoxidation effects on stockyards or during maritime transportation. This presentation contains the new state-of-the-art slow-cooling method designed by AUMUND.
