Cold Agglomerated Iron Ore Briquettes Used in Blast Furnace Ironmaking Process: Refractories Overview – Runner and Mud Gun
Recently Vale S.A. developed green iron ore briquettes. The sodium silicate base binders allow the production of a cold agglomerate capable to be used in blast furnace (BF) and able to reduce CO2 emissions up to 10%. The industrial tests carried out shown an excellent purge of sodium by the slag. So, Vale S.A. and Shinagawa promoted a joint study to evaluates a typical BF slag, containing levels of Na2O up to 5%, over the casthouse refractories. The laboratory results showed that for regular and high-performance refractories, the slags tested didn’t compromise its performance.
