Latest Developments in the Hard Spot Inspection of Heavy Plates
Hard spots are localized areas of increased hardness on the surface of semifinished or finished steel products. This presentation gives an update on the current developments of electromagnetic testing methods for the detection of hard spots. In order to integrate an inspection into the production process, factors such as inhomogeneities in the rolling skin and residual magnetization due to magnetic forces must not influence the inspection result. Therefore, the testing method uses a strong alternating magnetization to measure different resulting micromagnetic parameters so that it is possible to measure even small local hardness changes on the plates.
