Automatic Coupling of Ladles for Operator Safety – A Review of Recent Installations
Operator safety is of major concern to all steelmakers and the recent trend is to avoid operator presence near the ladle by introducing automatic coupling solutions throughout the steel mill. This paper first outlines the major technological features of a system which features the automatic coupling for all media like gas, hydraulic and electrical signals for tracking and slag detection. Secondly, specific technical requirements, challenges during the installation and project milestones of two recent installations will be presented alongside with operational results after the installation.
