Flexible “Twins”: The Premium Class in Hot Rolling of Stainless and Acid-Resistant Steels

SMS group supplied the new twin-stand Steckel mill at Shandong Tisco Xinhai Stainless. It enables the economical production of hot strip through the combination of reversing Steckel technology and continuous rolling. The focus is on a wide range of products and a very good quality for smaller quantities and smaller batch sizes, especially when it comes to the production of challenging steel grades, such like stainless and acid resistant steels in widths up to 2,100 mm (83”) and final gauges down to 2.0 mm (0.079”). The paper offers insights in the innovative technology of Steckel rolling and presents operating results.
