Effective Sulfur Control in the Ladle Metallurgy Furnace
Achieving the correct sulfur level (30 to 300 ppm) consistently across a varied range of products in scrap-based steelmaking requires a judicious selection of synthetic slag and ladle operations. Furthermore, as the sulfur activity in steel for different grades plays a significant role, this study delineates effects of alloying elements and synthetic slag additions on the effective desulfurization of steel. A process design framework with case studies is presented to achieve better and consistent desulfurization goals across different steel grades.
